Football Legend Robert Lewandowski Reveals Retirement Date, Capping Illustrious Career with Barcelona.
- Lewandowski has contract until 2026 with Barca
- Hinted that he could carry on for a few more years
- Scored 19 goals in 14 appearances this season
WHAT’S HAPPENED?
Robert Lewandowski remains elite, delivering extraordinary performances since joining Barcelona from Bayern Munich in 2022. This season, he’s scored 19 goals in 17 matches across competitions, proving invaluable to Barcelona’s six-point La Liga lead and cementing his status as one of the game’s top scorers.
WHAT LEWANDOWSKI SAID?
But the experienced forward is looking ahead with realism. Forbes got the chance to sit down with Lewandowski, who said that “At my age now… I know that soon — two, three years, I don’t know exactly — it is going to done. It is going to finished.”
His contract with Barcelona runs until 2026 with a one-year extension option but Lewandowski insisted he will quit when the desire to play is no longer there.
He said: “I want to say, and I only am looking in the mirror — no is anybody else — when the finish will be.” The very first time I wake up in the morning and do not feel like coming to training — that is when I will have start considering retirement’.
Still, he doesn’t have any desire to walk away. When I wake up every morning — and I hope it stays this way — there is no pain. I still have the feeling (that) I love to go for training, go to the club,” he added.
BEHIND THE PICTURE
Barcelona are already looking for potential replacements for Lewandowski as they know he won’t last forever. Sporting director Deco branded players such as Victor Gyokeres and even Erling Haaland to replace the Polish striker.
However, as reported by OneFootball, he said: “It is very hard to go and find a striker in the market who plays like Robert. There’s one or a couple of them at this level. Perhaps Haaland or one other,” Mundo Deportivo quoted him as saying.
“We know Gyokeres, he is a good player and has been scoring a lot of goals in Portugal for a while, as we do [many] others but it is not our priority now and we are not looking for number nine to replace Robert because we want him to continue feeling happy and scoring goals at least this season.”
