WHAT HAPPENED?
Mbappe invoked the fury of a number of france fans last week after the Real Madrid star was left off Didier Deschamps’ Les Bleus call-ups for their Nations League clashes against Israel and Belgium. The reason for the 25-year-old being given the time off has been due to a lack of fitness, however, fans have wondered if Mbappe is prioritising Los Blancos as he has played two games for the side since returning from injury.
THE BIGGER PICTURE
French outlet Foot Mercato have now claimed that Mbappe has told Deschamps that he will only play in important matches for France as he targets the 2025 Ballon d’Or. Due to the increasing number of games players have been forced to play, the report has claimed that the Frenchman is keen to stay fit for Real Madrid regardless of whether the ‘malaise continues to grow’ between him and the national team. The main reason behind it is his injury.
